OUR AIMS

Walk Colchester was set up in 2010 with the following objectives:

To promote and facilitate safe and enjoyable walking

To improve health and community engagement by encouraging walking as a primary
form of transport. -
To advance inclusive approaches to walking by representing the perspectives of disabled walkers and wheelchair users in all walk-related initiatives.

To promote communication and a shared agenda with the cycling community.
​ To aid protection of our green open spaces and advance countryside access for all

To work to remove or redesign man-made barriers to countryside access and to address invisible, attitudinal barriers.

To support local, inclusive pathway planning, development and management via improved auditing, communication structures and design protocols.
To provide good information about and facilitate inclusive walking access to the local green environment, including:

Paths, trails, parks, woods and open spaces

Local wildlife and countryside biodiversity

Sustainability features: allotments, recycling points

Local heritage points of interest and arts/cultural venues.
To promote an inclusive approach to walk mapping

Providing practical map-based information aimed at maximizing informed choice for walkers of all abilities.

To act as a prototype for inclusive mapping and information provision on a wider scale.
